Come practice with us in a way that fits your busy life. Practice happens in many shapes and forms. "On the mat" time provides a valuable - and necessary - time for reflection and change as you learn to relate to your body and listen to your heart in new ways. Whether you come to class once a week, or five times a week, it doesn't matter. We'll teach you where you're at, as the benefits of your practice are too great to pass up because you're busy.
Bodies are different these days. We sit for long stretches of time, we stare at screens a lot, we are under stress, and we hunch. So, we've created classes to address these issues. Do you have carpal tunnel, wrist or shoulder injuries? Try our No Dog Yoga class - all the benefits of yoga with none of the strain on the wrists.
Do you run? Walk a lot in the city? Sit at a desk? Try our Yoga for Runners class. It started as a way for runners to use yoga as a way to alleviate much of the stresses of running on the body. Turns out it's also great for anyone who wants to focus on stretching and strengthening the quads, hamstrings, and hips.
This studio is about growth, self-discovery, and the chance to begin again…over and over again. We started this studio because we love to teach - students, teachers, ourselves. We pay close attention to our students. We know who has tight hips, who has super flexible shoulders, and who hyper-extends their knees. Yoga is a journey, and we want to be the ones who guide you.
My practice has been so integral to how I interact in the world that it's hard to separate - my life and my practice seem to be the same thing…

As a runner and former rower, I've spent many, many years doing damage to my body. It was a vicious and cycle of training for some race or regatta, and landing myself right into physical therapy and the related anti-inflammatories, muscle relaxers, and cortisone shots … I sought yoga out and hoped it was the better way. After two classes, four years ago, I realized that it was the better way; for balance in both senses of the word…

I am working on accepting what shows up physically on the mat, and really pay attention to what is happening today on the mat. Sometimes that means slowing down, or using props. Knowing if today is a day to go to the edge or do less. And not caring about which one it is…

I used to live around the corner from the studio, and for at least a year, I would walk by daily and say to myself: Maybe tomorrow I'll go to yoga! When tomorrow finally came, I dropped in for a class. And then another. And then I bought a class card. And a stack of American Apparel leggings…Now, two years later, my home is a mile away from the studio, but I keep coming back…

Coming from a dance background, which translated into I-know-how-to-stretch-so-I-don't-need-yoga-itis, as well as being rather type A and preferring the adrenaline rush of running or lifting weights, I was a reluctant yogi. Except when I was pregnant. Yoga helped me immensely in my first pregnancy, so when I was in the family way with my second son, I turned to the yoga studio around the corner, and hence discovered Mala…

I found my way to Mala when a friend emailed one day asking if I wanted to try a yoga class with her that weekend. I said yes…and then proceeded to spend the next hour frantically Googling "common yoga poses," trying to determine whether or not I'd be able to do them without falling on my face…
